According to a survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Spark Aligners, 69% of Americans ranked the eyes as one of the most important physical traits when making first impressions from social media photos.

I guess it’s true when they say the eyes are the window to your soul.

And they’re apparently one of the first things people notice about you.

With that said, what role do the eyelashes play in all of this – if any?

Eyelashes are short, curved hairs that grow on the eyelids. They not only protect the eyes from debris, dust, and small particles, but they’re also a sign of beauty and can enhance the appearance of the eyes.

If the eye is Serena Williams, then the eyelashes are Venus Williams.

But like Venus and Serena, the eyelashes aren’t perfect – at least not for most of us.

And while long, dark, thick eyelashes are considered the beauty standard in today’s society, many of us are unhappy with our short, thin, sparse, straight, brittle, and aged lashes – and mascara only goes so far.

If that sounds like you, then don’t worry – The SKN Bar in Nashville, TN is here to help!

Lash Out Loud: How Lash Extensions Can Transform Your Look

Eyelash extensions are synthetic or natural fibers that are attached to the natural eyelashes to enhance their length, volume, curl, and overall appearance – reducing and even eliminating the need for makeup.

And no, we’re not talking about those fake eyelashes you get at Claire’s.

Unlike fake eyelashes, which are attached to the skin of your eyelid above your natural lashes using temporary glue, eyelash extensions are attached directly to the lash itself – literally strand by strand.

Not only does this achieve a more natural look, but it can be customized.

In fact, lash extensions are available in a variety of different lengths (6-18mm), curl types (J-curl, B-curl, C-curl, D-curl), diameters (between 0.03-0.20 mm), textures, and materials (synthetic, silk, mink, etc.).

This allows us to give you the exact look and feel that you were hoping for.

During the procedure, we’ll use a special adhesive to apply individual extensions to each natural lash – but keep in mind, most of us have 90-150 eyelashes on the upper lid and 70-80 lashes on the lower lid.

It’s a tedious process that generally takes between one and three hours, but it’s worth every minute!

Lift, Lash, Love: Can a Lash Lift Give You Perfectly Curled Lashes?

A lash lift is a cosmetic procedure that enhances the natural lashes by lifting and curling them from the base to the tip, making them appear longer and more defined – while drawing more attention to the eyes.

Unlike extensions, a lash lift doesn’t add volume to the lashes.

It does, however, bring out the best in your existing eyelashes.

Using an adhesive, the lashes are attached to a curling rod customized to your liking. A lifting lotion is applied to allow the lashes to mold around the rod, followed by a setting lotion that sets the lash shape.

In other words, it’s basically a perm for your natural eyelashes.

The process usually takes less than one hour from start to finish and results generally last between one and two months – maintenance is minimal, but make sure you avoid water and makeup for 24-48 hours.

If lash extensions are too dramatic of a transformation, go with the lash lift.

It’s less expensive, requires less maintenance, the procedure won’t take as long, the results are a little more natural, and the results might even last a little longer – but your lashes must be at least 4mm long.

Bold and Beautiful: Why Lash Tints Are a Must-Try Enhancement

A recent study by YouGov found that nearly 3 of 4 women (74%) in the United States wear makeup at least once per month – and of those who wear makeup, mascara is hands-down the most popular type.

For those who want darker, more defined lashes, mascara is a great option.

But just because it works doesn’t mean it’s your only option – or best option.

With that said, we’d like to introduce you to something called a lash tint – which can darken and intensify the color of your lashes with permanent, cream-based dyes. It’s basically a long-term form of mascara.

But don’t worry – while the dye is permanent, the results are semi-permanent.

That’s because, much like the hair on top of your head, your lashes grow, fall out, and replace themselves in a natural cycle every six to 10 weeks. Once your lashes fall out and grow back, a new tint is needed.

The good news is the procedure only takes about 30 minutes from start to finish.

A lash tint is best reserved for those who have naturally light or blonde lashes, but that’s not to say it won’t work for those with dark, brown, or black lashes – it just means the result won’t be as dramatic.
